Summer Book Club

JJ and I saw a flyer for a summer book club for 4th and 5th graders at the library this summer. Soooo exciting! He's digging into "No Talking" by Andrew Clements tonight - for a June 16 book club. The rest of the summer includes City of Ember, Gone-Away Lake, Chasing Vermeer and one other. Good to see the book club thing has passed on to the next generation!

Very cool! A has read City of Ember and Chasing Vermeer, and really liked both.

I've heard him discuss some books with certain friends, but mostly along the lines of "oh, yeah, I really liked it when..." I'll be interested to hear if there's a facilitator who gets the kids to talk about themes or ideas in a more "book club" kind of way. Seems like that would be a really valuable way for kids to start thinking about books (in addition, of course, to encouraging them to read!).

I'm so excited Gone-Away Lake is on the list! Talk about a flash from the past. I read and re-read that and Return to Gone Away!

Hennepin offers a Guys Read type of club, but J. is too old now.

Fun!

I know there's a facilitator, so it'll be fun to see what happens. I'm not sure us adults are allowed to listen! I'll let you know....
