Snowdrops!

I meant to post about a week ago to say that our snowdrops are up, and there are some crocus and daffodil leaves that are making optimistic appearances. This is very typical of our area - we get some really early warm weather (a few days in the 60s), the plants go wild, and then it gets cold again. (Not Minnesota or Illinois cold, but freezing temperatures.) We're supposed to get a few inches of snow turning into freezing rain and ice tomorrow, so I fear for our courageous little bulbs!

Hmmm. No snow drops. Just snow. Usually about this time, the temps go up and down so you see the yard in brief muddy glimpses but not this February. Everything is frozen and snow covered. There are still huge rutted patches of ice on all the side streets and I haven't seen my grass since that 60 degree day in January.

We're warming up this weekend to 34 degrees. Yippee! Get out the sun screen. I'm normally not a weather whiner but this season has been harder for some reason. I think it's because I can't wait to get on my bike (and off my a**) this season. I sort of understand why people go to Florida and Arizona in the winter (even though I don't really want to do that).

Anyway, JNJ, give your snowdrops my best regards.

I gave them a quick hi from you before they were covered up. School's closed today, so I canceled my class, too, and am planning a day curled up in a chair with a book...and moderating Playmobil disputes. Lots of Roman legions doing their thing today.

I can't believe you've had several days in the sixties already! As DJ said, this year has been harder than usual. For us, it's been the bouts of bitter cold, not really that much more snow/ice.

Hope you had a fun snow day! They are few and far between in these parts!

They close the schools at the drop of a hat around here. We haven't had the ice that was predicted, so it seems that everyone could have gone to school as usual...but the district is very cautious, which is probably just as well because people here don't know how to drive in snow.

The kids spent most of the day next door, so I had a pretty quiet day!

We have almost bought last minute tickets to sunshine... even us diehard winter fans are getting cabin fever this winter! No snowdrops here, just snow! and cold.... Only good part is this is the first year in a long time that I've had good cross country skiing! We're going out again tomorrow. If you can't head to the sun, you better enjoy the snow!
